Are you thinking about getting a tattoo? Whether it’s your first or fifteenth, preparing for your tattoo session is crucial to ensure the best experience and outcome. At our studio, we pride ourselves on working with talented artists who are dedicated to crafting exceptional tattoos. To help you get ready for your appointment, we’ve compiled a list of essential tips and FAQs. Let’s dive in!
Pre-Tattoo Preparation
Moisturize Your Skin
Having smooth, moisturized skin is a game-changer for both the tattoo process and the final look of your ink. Properly hydrated skin allows our artists to work more efficiently, making the process of pulling lines faster and easier. It also improves the application of color, resulting in a smoother blend and minimizing skin irritation. We recommend using a non-scented lotion in the days leading up to your appointment to ensure your skin is in the best condition possible.
Eat and Hydrate
Before stepping into our studio, make sure you’ve had a full meal and are well-hydrated. A nourished and hydrated body not only makes you more comfortable during the session but also helps our artists perform their best work.
Rest Well
A good night’s sleep before your tattoo appointment is essential. Being well-rested will help you relax during the session and can even impact how your body tolerates pain.
What to Avoid
Alcohol
Please refrain from consuming alcohol both the night before and on the day of your tattoo session. Alcohol can thin your blood, making the tattooing process more difficult and potentially affecting the healing process. While a single drink post-tattoo is usually fine, we generally advise against heavy drinking and recommend getting some rest instead.
Pre-Shaving
While we appreciate the thoughtfulness, please do not pre-shave the area to be tattooed. Incorrect shaving can lead to cuts, nicks, or razor burn, complicating the tattooing process. We’ll take care of the shaving if necessary, ensuring the skin is perfectly prepped for your new artwork.
Outdoor Activities
Planning a vacation around your tattoo session? Make sure to complete any vigorous outdoor activities beforehand. Fresh tattoos and the great outdoors don’t mix well, especially if you’re planning on swimming or spending extended periods in the sun. Always wear sunscreen to protect your skin and avoid getting sunburned, as we cannot tattoo sunburnt skin.
